A Myriad of Identities | 2023
As decades pass, new trends in music come and go, and new technologies change the way lighting is used in clubs, the technology of the disco ball has remained relatively consistent. How can something like a disco ball remain so untouched in a culture that is changing so quickly?
A Myriad of Identities is a 50cm or 100cm Myriad Reflector, also known as a disco ball. The ball with thousands of mirrors balances on a tower. Lying on three motors, the disco ball can rotate in all directions and also change speed. The dizzying effect of the mirror ball has only known one dimension until now: horizontal lines. With A Myriad of Identities we rediscover the beauty of the mirror ball.
By shining three powerful lights in a triangular shape directly onto the ball, the entire space around the tower is filled with bright white beams of light. The precision motor in the tower gives full control over Myriad, with which we can visually move the space.
